Note from the reviewing doctor: Vitamin D improves with sunshine and a good diet, and daily yoga helps build bone strength.

At 13, Deepika began struggling with irregular periods, monthly loose motions, fever, uncontrollable crying spells, mood swings, and acne all over the face. After years of medicines and tonics that did not seem to help, what changed for Deepika? Let's find out. “For years I looked for answers in bottles of pills and tonics. What finally changed things for me was going back to nature: sunlight, fresh food and a simple routine.”

The beginning

My battle with PCOD began early on, I have visited five different doctors, what I dreaded more than anything was the gynecologists' visits, Imagine going to a gynecologists' with your parents and they do a pregnancy test! It was such an embarrassing memory etched in me. I was shocked when my weight started increasing, and my life was tossed upside down!

I felt my health was getting worse, and I began to look at naturopathy and Ayurveda. I was hoping for my disease reversal but all I got was at least two new bags full of weird-smelling tonics and herbal concoctions. Having them made me feel queasy and I was burning up from within. My search for pills and potions free solution was still on.After somehow struggling with all of these health issues and finishing my education, i was ready to leap into my professional life and move to Bangalore for a new job, that's when i suddenly started getting severe poking pain in my middle back, it did not come just once or twice, but every single time, my family dismissed it as a gastric issue. It kept getting worse every time, it got so unbearable that I could not even lie down, sit or stand. When I went to the doctor, it turned out to be a severe vitamin D deficiency. My level was 9. My doctor asked me “are you really going to move to Bangalore in such a condition?” It was a tough decision for me, not to mention the lack of ample sunlight in cloudy Bangalore. I braced myself with all forms of vitamin D supplement hoping they would help me recover. Despite taking a supplement every week for two years, my vitamin D level had only reached 11. My PCOD related problems were still haunting me and if i had to continue working, I had to rely on a bunch of pills, what made it worse was that i was allergic to antibiotics, every time I had them, I would get rashes all over. Every month I would get fever, cough and cold which lasted at least for 5 days. I was the only employee who exhausted the medical allowance and spent a considerable amount every month on my pills, nobody my age was taking as many pills as me.

One look at Satvic Movement’s “Juice-on” video on Instagram and I knew I had to give it a try. I attended the very next Juice Fasting on 28th April 2020, that was the turning point in my life, the first day was challenging but soon I learnt about what is going on in my body and decided to religiously follow the lifestyle, that’s when i started to follow the routine for the next one month.

My daily routine looked like this:

At 5:30 AM, I would wake up feeling fresh, and I further freshen up.

Then, around 6:00, I drink tender coconut water or ash gourd juice, then around

6:30 AM I start doing yoga on my terrace, after a nice yoga session, I get on with my work

Around 9:30 AM, I again head to the terrace and get my dose of loving sunshine for half an hour 10:00 - I head back home and have anyone fruit for breakfast, be it papaya or banana, or any fruit in season. At around 11 or 11:30, I have a glass full of a refreshing vegetable juice like ABC or green juice.

At around 2:00 I have my Satvic sabzi and colourful Satvic roti.

I have my dinner by 6:30 PM which usually is either a Satvic salad or any Satvic soup- I have tried every single Satvic soup from the Food Book and love them all!

After the first month, my vitamin D report came back at 63. I was amazed, and that kept me going. This lifestyle has given me so much: my acne cleared, my face has a glow, I lost weight, my periods are regular, and my PMS and bowel troubles have eased. Most of all, it has given me a happy and peaceful life. On a day to day basis, I am saving a lot more time in the kitchen, that is helping me dedicate more time to my work and other activities, I generally feel happy and relaxed.

Family's reaction

My parents’ faces lit up looking at my clear and glowing skin. I was looking fitter after losing weight. Within two weeks, even my parents joined in, and they have both felt the benefits in their own health. It was no cakewalk as my parents were missing their regular rice and lentils! And sometimes they would lose their cool and throw tantrums about having only Satvic food, but after experiencing the benefits, their complaints flew away. Earlier they had questions like "won't you become too weak by skipping dairy and grains altogether?" Now they got all their answers.

Now we are a Satvic family and all our relatives and guests know that we won't offer tea or coffee but herbal tea and that we won't eat sweets, so it's better to exchange fruits!

I strongly urge you to give this lifestyle a try, alongside your own doctor's care.
